I have been spending a lot of time and energy researching baby food. For some reason I have this paranoia that we're way behind the curve with solids. I think it is because Maddie kind of boycotted solids for a few weeks, except for her oatmeal, and also maybe because the nanny worries about it so much. She thinks Maddie should be eating everything already.
But as I study the lists of ideas for what to feed 6- to 10-month-old babies, I realize we haven't done so badly after all. From those lists, here's what Maddie has tried so far:
LIKES
Rice cereal
Oatmeal
Bananas
Peaches
Nectarines
Prunes
Mango
Blueberries
Sweet potatoes
Plain whole milk yogurt
Egg yolk
Black beans (evidently!)
JURY'S STILL OUT
(She likes them, then she doesn't like them, then she likes them again. I'm not prepared to throw in the towels on these.)
Carrots
Potatoes
Chicken
DISLIKES
Peas (pureed - I'm going to try to steam them and serve them as finger food)
Green beans
Zucchini and yellow squash
Avocado
The encouraging thing is that she's really started paying attention when I eat something, watching me take each bite. So, I'm hoping her interest in solids is going through a resurgence.
