1. What do you do for a living?
I'm a marketing communications project manager at McKesson. What that means is that I do a lot of writing and editing, manage the design and production of collateral, and nag a lot. That's my day job. By night I'm a crime-fighting freelance writer, when I feel like it.
2. What do you like most about your job?
I love being able to write and edit for a living. They are my passions, and I have recently discovered that I'm not happy unless I'm doing those things. My last job ended up being about 95% HTML programming, and I was miserable. I also really like the people I work with, and I'm proud of my company and what we do. I feel like for the first time in my career, I'm working for a company that actually helps people in meaningful ways. Even if I'm a mere cog in that wheel, it still feels good.
3. What do you like least about your job?
I really hate office politics. I've been pretty successful at burying my head in the sand in that regard, but they inevitably creep in from time to time.
I also hate paying invoices.
4. When you have a bad day at work it's usually because _____...
It's usually for one of two reasons: either because things are so ridiculously busy that people start getting bitchy, or because a project I am managing is delayed because of somebody else's disregard or lack of accountability. Neither of those things happens very often. Though when either of them do, I am usually thrown into a tizzy and start threatening to leave my job and become a dog walker. Which leads me to the next question...
5. What other career(s) are you interested in?
I'm like a little kid when it comes to this question. Firefighter, superhero ... Mostly I think I'd like to go into business for myself as a full-time freelance writer and designer. But I also think about other careers such as:
Novelist; sociologist; pet-sitter; brand management guru; veterinary technician; translator; publishing house editor; food writer; retail store owner; restauranteur; teacher
Never mind that I'm not really qualified for any of the above, except maybe the publishing house editor.
